Match Report – Actonians 2’s vs Finsbury Park 2’s

Last weekend saw Actonians 2’s take on their good rivals and competitors, Finsbury Park.

It was a tough game from KO with the wind keeping scoring low and passing tight.
The opening quarter saw the sides still level until the deficit was finally broken with Finsbury Park touching down for the opening try of the day.
Kicking accuracy was key on the day and Zak Taylor’s accuracy from hand kept Actonian’s down the Finsbury Park end of the pitch. But with a strong defensive set, Finsbury Park were able to keep Actonian’s from crossing the white-wash.
Just before half-time, Finsbury Park dotted down again through a well-worked backs move from the base of the scrum.
Finsbury went in at half-time 10-0 up.

Actonian’s knew this game was still very much in the balance and they were determined to right the wrongs of the first half. They came out of the blocks firing and within the opening 10 of the second half, they we’re back in the Finsbury Park 22 and piling on the pressure.
The pressure eventually became too much for Finsbury to deal with and off the base of a strong scrum, DJ dotted down on the blindside. 5-10. Game On.

The second half wind which was now blowing harder had a big impact on both kicking and passing accuracy from both sides. Finsbury took advantage of having the wind at their backs and through some good kicking, they gained a lot of territory.
Actonian’s defence was strong and they kept Finsbury at bay for the opening 20 minutes of the second half. However through some strong carries and passing, Finsbury scored two unanswered tries. 5-22.

Actonian’s were not going down without a fight and with some change up’s on the pitch, Actonians broke through again for a second try.

Final score 10-22.

Always a great contest against Finsbury Park. Some great players and lads on their side. Actonian’s will be looking forward to the rematch of this one.
