From a delayed start to the season due to the weather, and what was meant to be a double header at home, the mighty A’s were unfazed. The bright blue skies and warm weather kept the mood high, and before KO we got word of a 2’s win and the cavalry were coming. This game needed a big club effort, with special thanks to 2’s players Theo Galamez, Samuel O’Connor, and Declan Bambrick for playing both games!
Actonians were first off the mark with a well-worked Dan Cussons try in the corner after great forward play.
After another bout of great forward play, winning a scrum and hard carries by Mark Stuart and Luke Taylor, JT took all the glory and walked in the try, in typical JT fashion.
Ollie Poulter's excellent place-kicking kept us out of reach. Valliant defence kept Hammers out, but they got in just before the break. At halftime, the score was 17-5
Intercepts from Will Morgan and Thomas Knight disrupted Hammers' forward momentum.
Hammers’ defence had no answer to Xavier’s cutting runs, and he scored 2 tries.
After a masterclass in defence, with lineout steals and crunching tackles, Fearghal Cooke was tragically rewarded with a yellow card for a marginally high tackle (guess who wrote the match report?).
With 5 minutes to go, it was all Hammers, knocking on the door of our try line, but Actonians did not answer. Locking the Hammers out and seeing them off to the end of the game.
Actonians delivered a performance of the season, with plenty more to come from the boys. Next home game is the first double header of the season on the 24th Oct; bring your costumes for the Halloween social afterwards!
