A few words from Peter Mullen

From the club President 2019-20 Season Update..

Two months into the playing season after a successful pre-season under our expanded coaching team sees the club very well positioned both on and off the pitch. On the pitch we are regularly putting out two teams with the 1’s competing strongly in the top 4 of Herts and Middlesex Two - recent bonus point wins have taken the club to 4th in the table with a crunch top of the table fixture against second placed Old Millhillians at home on November 9TH - this will be a key measure of the progress made this season. The 1’s were also victorious in Round One of the RFU Junior Vase and will face Teddington away on November 30th. Our 2’s are unbeaten. The atmosphere in the club house on Saturday nights, now we have two teams playing regularly, brings back memories of some great nights from the past. Our aim is to get out a third team that plays occasional social fixtures before Christmas.

Off the field we have an excellent well organised committee. Our efforts in Social Media, started last season, have been stepped up, the club website has been revamped and is regularly updated https://www.actoniansrfc.com/ - this along with the club Pitchero app (we can help you download it) gives real time updates on what is happening each week. This is my first time involved at the club in many years and there is a real buzz about the place. Success on the field helps but the record numbers at training and the organisation off the field has given an energy to the club that was absent for some time.

However, this is just a start - we have stepped up our recruitment efforts to be a year round initiative, we have ensured better quality food after games, that there are sufficient bar staff to cater for the early evening crush and asked that people stay later at the club to try recapture some of what made Actonians a special place on Saturdays.

We have put in place a 5 year plan to develop the club on and off the pitch and this will be complimented by the Association development plans that will create one of West London’s best locations to play and be involved in sport. We really want to make this work and aim to take our club back up to the London Leagues where we last played in 2015.

Those of us old timers who go the club on a Saturday can see initial progress and have really enjoyed our afternoons and evenings there. I would encourage more former players/members to come see for yourself and for a modest social membership charge re-join the club.

If you know someone interested in playing who lives in London or who plans to be in London in the near future - please let us know.
